What’s Up at Bee Wild?

The team has been at farmers markets and events this month. But, it’s been pretty quiet for the home team. We lost one of our “feline” team members, our team mascot Jumping Jack Flash. We rescued Jackie almost 23 years ago, and he was an integral team member. He sat on our laps when we were brainstorming, kept his Uncle John company when he was working late into the night, and encouraged us by example to be more unconditional. Jackie attended every team meeting, jumping up on the table and inspecting all the papers, knocking ideas he felt wouldn’t work right off the table. He was also one of our best honey tasters. 🙂 Here is a great picture of him in our office window:

While we will continue to miss his physical presence, his loving spirit will be with us always.

Beekeeping Class

As you can see by our featured image, we ran our first beekeeping class this month. Here’s a testimonial from one of our attendees:

The Urban Beekeeping 101 did exactly what it said it would do: gave me the basic set of skills to set-up my own hive. We covered only the amount of classroom material that was necessary to get some basic terminology then did exactly what I wanted – got out with the bees. The instructor showed us how to assemble frames, as well as where and how to set-up our hive, as well as giving us a “come to Jesus” meeting on dealing with pests that will invade our hive. Although I realize there is a LOT to learn, we were given a great reading list, and I’m much more confident in moving forward on starting beekeeping.

We Had a Very Creepy Halloween

We started coming out of the shock of losing Jackie so suddenly just before Halloween. So, we decided to decorate our front yard, as we always do. Here’s a photo of the spider tunnel!!! Creepy!!!
