How Can We Create More Wellness
As I work on uncovering another level of wellness, I look back at all the improvements I’ve already made and feel so grateful for the information about alternative support that has come my way over the last 20 years. Since our readers are interested in creating greater levels of wellness, I thought you might like me to distill a few wellness basics that have contributed to better balance and more wellness in my own life.
Wellness Basics
- Drink at least half your body weight in ounces of water. For example, if you weigh 100 lbs., then drink at least 50 ounces of the best quality water you can find every day. If you sweat a lot in work or play, increase the amount of water you drink.
- Eat organic, seasonal, local fresh food. If you eat meat, make sure that your meat is hormone and chemical-free, humanely treated. (My health mentor recommends moderation not vegetarian or vegan eating.) It goes without saying that eating processed or refined foods is filling your body with empty calories, so why bother with anything other than organic, seasonal, local?
- Since most farmers are dealing with remineralizing depleted soil, it’s a good idea to supplement basic minerals and vitamins. I buy the most absorbable supplements so the vitamins and minerals are close to what they should be in Nature. I don’t get fancy with a bunch of supplements – I do the basics in low dosages and believe my body can make what it needs if I give it all the basics.
- Walk outside in the sunlight, preferably barefoot, every day to help ground yourself. If you can’t manage barefoot, at least take a walk around the block or in the park during your lunch break.
- Even if you don’t want to go to the gym daily, move as much as you can. I personally don’t like the usual workout, so I learned QiGong. I can get an aerobic workout doing 40 minutes of QiGong without getting sweated up. Right now I’m learning how to apply QiGong to building strength. For those who are stressed, yoga can be really helpful. Of course, if you like to run or lift weights and it brings you joy, that’s wonderful… it’s just not me.
- Learn all you can about the value of breathing and find a form of breathwork that you enjoy. Practice breathwork several times a week.
- Educate yourself on how your body works and how vitamins and minerals interact in your body. That way when you hear a suggestion, you have a better chance of making an informed decision.
- Investigate all of your choices, do some critical thinking, and don’t rely on anyone’s opinions of who you are and what your body can do to bring itself back into balance. I’ve known people who were given a “death sentence” from their main stream doctors and lived decades using holistic health methods. I was told that I would never walk again in 1999, and while it took several years of intense natural healing, I’ve been up and walking since 2007. My motto continues to be, “Don’t let anyone else’s opinion of who you are become your reality.”
- Appreciate your body’s great abilities and beauty. You breathe without thinking about it. Your blood circulates without you controlling it. Every system and process in your body is a miracle every moment of every day.
With this basic foundation, you will give your body everything it needs to keep in balance.
