Review of Fast Metabolism Diet
I went to see Dr. Kathryn Lawson a few weeks ago, and she recommended The Fast Metabolism Diet by Haylie Pomroy. Dr. K. mentioned that her client went on the program and after three weeks had better tissue and muscle tone, lost weight, and had great energy. Sounded amazing to me, so I decided to read and research. I was so impressed I started the program yesterday.
Haylie Pomroy was born into agriculture. She spent many years in Future Farmers of America and studied to become a veterinarian. She came out of this environment with a deep understanding of the relationship between how a body looks and works and the food a body is fed. During an internship, she became interested in nutrition, and that was the entry point to her career as a nutritionist. Since that time, she has gone deeper into the field of nutrition with her studies and numbers famous movie stars, athletes, and politicians among her clients.
The Fast Metabolism Diet really isn’t about dieting. It’s about your body working the way it is designed to work. With water, food, and the air becoming more polluted; soil becoming less mineralized; and people dealing with more stress, most people’s bodies don’t function as designed. Couple this with processed and fast foods, and there is no such thing as optimal organ function. The Fast Metabolism Diet helps you learn to support the organs that run your metabolism so that they heal and return to appropriate functioning. When your metabolism functions the way it was was designed, becoming the weight that is optimal for you is natural. As Haylie Pomroy states,
Through my systematic rotation of targeted foods on specific days, at strategic times, the body transforms itself by cycling between rest and active recovery of the metabolism.
Day Two of the Fast Metabolism Diet
This program is not for the faint of heart. Haylie demands you to take a look at your relationship with food and your body. Going back to organic, seasonal, local food prepared by you is no easy task in a busy world. But, I found the Fast Metabolism app on iPhone to be very helpful in creating a shopping list after I had chosen a menu. Too, chopping the veggies for making my own food was actually soothing, and I put 5 pints of chicken barley soup (which is suitable for the first two days of every program week) in the freezer. That will minimize my cooking next week.
I really believe that almost no one is properly hydrating these days, and that much of the inflammation in our bodies is due to not drinking enough water. So, I totally get why Haylie asks us to drink water (half our body weight in ounces). I actually didn’t have much problem getting that much water in. I just had to make sure I took a water bottle with me to the store.
I’ve been promising myself that I would restart my QiGong routine. Fast Metabolism is giving me the best reason not to make excuses. I’m also going to start lifting weights again tomorrow, which I actually like and do too little of. I’m also looking forward to trading hot stone massages with my roommate this weekend.
Regaining Good Habits
I believe our bodies love it when we focus attention and awareness on them. So, reading Haylie’s book and starting her program helped me remember some great supports for my relationship with my body:
- Feed Your Body Well – organic, seasonal, local food is designed for the various cycles your body goes through
- Drink Plenty of Water – many chemical reactions in your body function better with adequate water and toxins flush out more easily
- Exercise – your body is a mammal; let it move
- Breathing – great technique for stress management
- Be Kind to Your Body – massages, manicures, pedicures, facials, touching are so integral to your body. Offer what you can kindly.
The Fast Metabolism Diet was eye-opening and worth reading. Whether you want to lose weight or have optimal body function, this book has some great reminders from a nutritionist who has coached thousands and thousands of People.
