Thursday’s Restaurant Review –
Revisiting Hudson North on Izakaya Night
We have been raving about our visit to Atlanta’s cutting edge, pop-up restaurant, Hudson North, so we took one of our friend from the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau there for Izakaya Night. Owner, Billy Streck, invited guest chef, Eli Kirshtein, to help diners explore how the Japanese combine Sake drinking with small plates of delicious food. So, we decided to revisit Hudson North as our Thursday’s Restaurant Review.
Chef Kirshtein of Top Chef fame did a masterful job of executing his ambitious menu. The lamb skewers were well done, and the chicken wings totally rocked our world. Our friend ordered the raw oysters and very much enjoyed them. The shrimp were perfect, well-cooked, and succulent. The only downside to the night is that the food came a little too fast, and at times we felt rushed.
Chef Kirshtein’s partner circulated the room and spoke to everyone. We found him to be well-informed about the menu and extremely pleasant to talk to. When we heard that Chef Kirshtein literally knew the shepherd that cared for the lamb that was on the menu, we knew we were in for a treat. We were also told that Chef Kirshtein is looking to open a new restaurant, perhaps in Midtown, and we are looking forward to hearing more as things develop.
We also had a great conversation with Billy Streck, also owner of Cypress Street Pint and Plate. He’s a great guy and a very knowledgeable restaurateur. Because of our great experience at Hudson North, we are planning to visit him at Cypress Street and hope that he considers opening another pop-up restaurant in Atlanta. Unique and delicious farm to table food should be available to all diners!
With the many restaurant chains serving relatively homogenous-tasting food, we applaud Billy Streck for bringing wonderful flavors and fun to the Atlanta restaurant scene. We highly recommend you visit Hudson North before it closes at the end of the month!
