Thursday’s Restaurant Review –
R Thomas Deluxe Grill
Our readers have sent positive comments about our Restaurant Reviews, featuring venues that serve clean, organic, local, seasonal food. In response, we have decided to dedicate one day a week as Restaurant Review Day on our blog. So, we would like to announce Thursday’s Restaurant Review by talking about the Grandaddy of all wellness-centered restaurants in Atlanta, R Thomas Deluxe Grill.
I moved to Atlanta in 1989, and one night, after a seminar, a group of us were hungry and wanted to find a good 24-hour restaurant. One of my friends recommended R Thomas Deluxe Grill. That was the beginning of our long-time relationship with Mr. Thomas, his staff, and good food that tastes good.
R Thomas Deluxe Grill opened as a burger joint in 1985 and has since expanded into the premier healthy eating establishment in Atlanta. As Donna Gates, author of The Body Ecology Diet said,
R Thomas is the solution to eating healthy when you’re eating out. They have set a new paradigm in the restaurant industry. Not just as restaurateurs, but also as educators and teachers. I am grateful to Jim, Richard and all the employees at R Thomas Deluxe Grill.
I absolutely adore the atmosphere at R Thomas Deluxe Grill. Mr. Thomas grows some of his restaurant’s herbs and salad veggies in pots around the restaurant, and seeing the plants change through the seasons is such a pleasure. His birds are a hoot, and I really enjoy watching Mr. Thomas take one out of its cage to introduce him or her to his customer’s children.
Often I eat from the “Breakfast Anytime” section of the Menu, but perhaps my favorite dish is the Lemon and Herb Linguine, which I have with free range chicken. The portion is quite large, and I often make two meals of this scrumptious dish, filled with the tart flavors of lemon with herbacious notes.
With respect to the wide selection of veggies, I vote for the cultured vegetables. The colors of the red cabbage and carrots are spectacular, and the sour taste of the cultured vegetables reminds me of the homemade sauerkraut my Grandmother made when I was a child. I never underestimate the benefit of the healthy bacteria in cultured vegetables, and it’s fun to have such a poignant memory connected to food that creates wellness.
Since this review introduced the topics of The Body Ecology Diet and Cultured Vegetables, I’ll be writing about both in next week’s blogs.
