Bee Wild: Why Use Natural Remedies
for Flu and Other Bugs
The kids are back in school and families are going out more to shop for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. So, exposure to seasonal flu and other bugs may happen. Did you know that there are alternative remedies that can support strengthening your immune system and your body’s natural ability to rebalance?
The Difference between Mainstream and Natural Medicine
In no way are we diagnosing or prescribing for you or your family. We aren’t licensed doctors and cannot do that. We also recommend that anyone who has serious concerns for their or a love one’s health go to a trusted medical professional and at least get a diagnosis.
Now that we have that understanding, let’s talk about the different between mainstream and natural medicine. In mainstream practice, medicines are geared toward symptom removal. One of our natural medicine mentors, Dr. Carolyn Dean, mentions that when she was in medical school, medication was prescribed for short term use. There was an expectation that the body would begin to rebalance itself, and that the medication would become unnecessary. However, this is not the case now. How many people are told that they will be on blood pressure, cholesterol, or blood thinning medications for the rest of their lives?
Natural or alternative remedies help your body work on the underlying cause for your symptoms. Let me use my own experience as an example. I had seen a cardiac specialist for heart rhythm issues for two years and was on blood pressure and blood thinning medication. The arrthymia got worse and worse plus I was tired all the time and could hardly get out of bed. Later, I was told by the cardiologist that the tiredness was a side effect from the blood pressure medication. After two years of trying to deal with the deteriorating quality of my life, I found out that if I did not have a heart valve issue (which I did not), then the heart arrthymia was caused by magnesium deficiency. So, I started a program of slowly supplementing absorbable magnesium, and after 4 months, I really noticed that I hardly ever had arrythmia. I continue to use magnesium, because my body is using what I supplement and I want to build up stores, and have been slowly weaning myself off my medication, since it didn’t work and burns magnesium.
What can we learn from this example about natural medicine? When you give your body good quality building blocks (vitamins, minerals, etc.) and it is allowed to use these building blocks to create whatever it needs, the body will rebalance itself. When the body rebalances, knowing that you are going to continue to feed it the nutrition it needs, symptoms will gradually disappear.
In Part 2 of this article, we will be sharing our two favorite alternative medicine sources and how we use Bee Wild honeys to make natural remedies for flu.
