Holiday Message –
You Can Start Where You Are
Well, it’s December 21, 2012, and like one of my mentors, Panache Desai, said, “No Armageddon. No end of the World. We are still here.” Does this mean things have to remain the same, that the opportunity for shift to a better world is gone? I emphatically say, “No!!!! You can let go of the world that doesn’t work for you and create heaven on earth for you and your family one step at a time.” Today, in my Holiday Message I am going to share with you how we, at Bee Wild, live heaven on earth every day.
I am including photos I just took of our Kitty Princes. They are an integral part of the staff at Bee Wild, blessing our honey shipments, watching John with interest every time he packs honey, just like they have done a hundred times before. Everything the kitties see is like it’s brand new to them. They are fully into whatever experience they are having at the moment. Each one has his own personality and little quirks. All the kitty princes are loved and accepted for who they are unconditionally.
Jumping Jack Flash is our first rescue cat. Someone dropped him off at our cat sitter, who was always rescuing animals. She brought him over one day, and we fell in love with each other. About two years after he became a part of our family, he was bitten by a stray cat who was FIV positive (feline version of HIV). Jack has had full blown Cat AIDS for about 10 years and has his health ups and downs. But, I can tell you when he comes up and lays in your lap, purring his contentment, accepting and supporting his health journey unconditionally is a small price to pay for the love he gives us.
Our second rescue cat is Angel Parker. When our carpenter was working on our kitchen rehab, Angel came into the basement when the garage door was open. He had a severely injured leg, when we eventually found him downstairs, and through kindness and food offerings, we eventually coaxed him to come out from behind the furnace. That is when we discovered his injury and took him to the vet. Helping Angel was one of the best investments we ever made, as Angel is exuberant and brought Jack more liveliness. Everything he does is with full commitment. He has no brakes and takes a run at every experience. It’s a joy to watch him. He’s also a great kisser – he hugs me and kisses me behind the ears.
Our third rescue is Ghost. Last Christmas we were having dinner together, and Ghost came to the door on our deck, crying with hunger and cold. We brought him into the house, and he has been King in Tolen’s bedroom suite for about a year now. He experiences adventure indoors more than most do outdoors, and getting a cuddle from him is a real treat. But, we were somewhat concerned about him because he seemed lonely and wasn’t as socialized as our other cats (We separated Ghost from the older cats because Jack had a bout of illness, and Ghost was a bit more aggressive than Jack could handle.).
God provided a solution to this dilemma. About a month ago, a black kitty with a white tail came in through the cat door. I didn’t know that Tolen was concerned for its safety and well-being and started leaving food out for the kitty. Quite frankly, I didn’t want a fourth cat, as I didn’t think we had the resources to take care of another animal at the moment. But, Tolen diligently left food for this little one and occasionally saw its tail disappear as it went back into hiding, so we had no way of knowing that the kitty was injured.
The three of us went to Orlando two weekends ago and a friend, Teri, took care of the cats and our house. She was able to coax the kitty out of hiding and found out that he had a crushed leg that was partially paralyzed. So, we took the kitty to the vet, and in order to save and prolong his life, he is going to have his leg amputated. But, the good thing is that Ghost and Christmas Kitty get on like a house on fire, and they really enjoy each other’s company. So, we anticipate that when “Chris” recovers, they will continue to be the Lords of Tolen’s suite.
So, what does this have to do with creating heaven on earth? On my 60th birthday, a friend asked me in my heart, what did I care the most about. I sat there silently, and I said that I had always wanted to help animals in shelters and disabled veterans who are on the Helper Animal Waiting List find each other. I shared that I believe that a new kind of co-creative training modality could be developed to facilitate speeding up the training process, that animals loved to help, and that this would get more animals out of shelters and to our disabled veterans. I said that I wanted to be a part of the development process and also fund a foundation that did this work. I clearly remember saying, “If I could get this off the ground, and the foundation was secure forever, I could die the next day and be satisfied that I did what I care about.”
Looking back I realize that every time we rescued a kitty, we were already on target for this mission. Every time we unconditionally loved and accepted one of our kitty princes and worked with him where he was at, we made another preparatory step toward actualizing the foundation. We have learned to better value individual animals, to be more unconditional, to apologize to our kitties when we are short with them, and how to take excellent care of animals, even when we didn’t feel we had the money or time. We learned to use every resource we had to support our princes as we learned and grew together. We learned to think outside the box to create more resources. What a training ground for the Paws To Help foundation!
Folks, I have always believed that God hears every word we say and that every word is a prayer. I also believe that all prayers are answered. I think our journey with the kitty princes shows this blessing in action. We are eternally grateful for each of our little princes and thank God for the opportunity to share our lives and work with them!
So, what do you care about? What problem would you solve, if you had the time, energy, and money? Do you care about the ecosystem, water quality, helping abused children? My Holiday Message to you is simple, “Don’t wait until you are ready! Start now!!!!” You can always do the research, volunteer with an organization already doing some of the work you want to see accomplished, give a dollar to a foundation that supports your cause. Everything you do to actualize your dream solution counts!!!!
I haven’t yet actualized all the funds to formalize Paws to Help. But, everywhere I’ve gone over the last two years, I’ve talked about it. Animal trainers, vets, and organizations that help disabled vets all over the east coast are in my Rolodex. I keep in touch with them all periodically. Too, when God gave me the opportunity to put my time, energy, and focus on the kitty princes so that I could explore my commitment level, we all stepped up to the plate.
You aren’t powerless to change the world. You aren’t powerless to solve a problem you care about. Once you get clear that you are going to be a part of the solution, every day you will be given opportunities to get one step closer to actualizing your heart’s desire. That’s how it works on Planet Earth!!! That’s the Secret — once you get clear, the solution will come to you one step at a time!!!!!
Our extended family at Bee Wild would very much appreciate you holding Christmas Kitty in prayer. We will be taking him to the vet this evening, he will have his surgery on Monday and about a 10 day recovery period at the vets. Then, he will come home, embraced in love!
We wish you a shower of joy and plenty during the holiday season and always, QueenBee
Dear Queen Bee!
It seems your dream became manifest the day little Jackie found his way to your ‘healing center.’ From then on the volumes of love that emmanates from your home became a Beacon.
Here is my prayer for Chris Kitty:
Good St. Francis, you loved all of God’s creatures.
To you they were your brothers and sisters.
Help us to follow your example of treating every living
thing with kindness. St. Francis, Patron Saint of animals,
watch over Christmas Kitty and keep Queen Bee’s companion safe, restore his health and strengthen his heart..
Amen.
With Love All things are possible.
A very Merry Christmas to you and your wonderful family!
