Key to Eating Seasonal, Local, Organic:
Grow Your Own Food
Grow Your Own Food! Fostering a healthy relationship with food is key to creating lasting wellness. I learn so much about this when my QiGong instructor, Jeff Primack, taught us Food Healing. See http://qigong.com/food-healing/. Of course, there are other systems of thought, and certainly you can shop at a local organic grocery store, farmers market, or farm. But, you will learn the most about the relationship between the Earth, the soil, weather, and plants if you grow your own food.
Since the owner and staff members of Bee Wild grow at least some of their herbs and vegetables, we occasionally post about our experiences. For example: https://blog.beewild.buzz/earth-day-planting-tomatoes/. As you can see, we have a container garden because we live on a wooded property with two few hours of sunlight. Since our deck gets a good eight hours of sun, we grow plants there. If you are committed and have little room or sun, you can begin by growing herbs on a window sill. You will be surprised at how forgiving plants are.
Just like other organic gardeners we have great results some and not so great results other years. Last year our jalapenos and eggplants were prolific. We don’t know any home gardener whose tomatoes did well last year. Our certainly didn’t. We also tried to grow squash in containers up trellises. We decided they loved being on the ground better. So, we adjust.
This year we are growing eggplants, jalapenos, tomatoes, and herbs in containers and summer squash and zucchini on the island in the middle of our cul de sac. Our neighbor started cleaning up the garden and growing tomatoes and flowers on his side of the island. We added the summer squashes. This neighbor-to-neighbor growing project has really fostered a stronger friendship among us.
We would love to hear your organic gardening stories. Please feel free to leave a comment. QueenBee
