A Primer on Detoxing
I have been involved in alternative healing, both as a practitioner and client, for over 25 years and have found that very few people understand how the body heals. They, therefore, feel they have few choices when it comes to their health care. As a service to our followers on the Bee Wild’ blog, I am going to write a primer on detoxing. Knowing how your body rebalances is essential to having more health care choices.
Balance is a natural process that is often misunderstood. When a geographic area is out of balance, we often see shifting weather patterns, such as violent storms, clear up the imbalance. But, we have a tendency to judge this rebalancing as something that is destructive and, thererfore, bad and wrong. What if these transforming circumstances brought the land and everyone who lives on the land back into balance? Would we judge the process?
One of the places I go to study the principles of alternative healing at the micro-level where billions of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa provide life-giving balancing to our bodies is the Perelandra website. With traditional Western medicine all microbes are considered to be the enemy and should be eradicated with antibiotics at all costs. When you take an antibiotic, all targeted microbes are killed, whether they are helpful or not. This is why your doctor suggests taking probiotics or eating yogurt after you have a cold or the flu.
What Machaelle Small Wright teaches is that there are billions of microbes who help your body function properly. For example, without microbes your digestive system would not work, and you literally would starve without their help. So, Perelandra shares processes and products that help the beneficial microbes become stronger so that they naturally overtake the less beneficial microbes.
So, what is detox? Traditional doctors often will call the body detoxing “having a cold or light flu.” What happens during these events is that the body is rebalancing by releasing toxins through your mucous, feces, and urine and realkalizing your body. The best thing one can do to support this process is to liquefy what is being released by drinking water, lemon water, hot toddies, and herbal teas. There are also products that liquefy your mucous such as Mucinex as well as benefit to consuming digestive enzymes every hour, whether you are eating or not. (Enzymes taken with food will go to you digesting that food; while, enzymes taken between meals will help clean up “the crud.”)
There is a long tradition outside of Western medicine to consciously choose detox as a wellness practice. Dr. Oz speaks to this process in his 48-Hour Weekend Cleanse.
Let’s continue our discussion about detoxing on Friday when we’ll discuss ways to help you move through a detox process with ease and elegance.
