Is Feeding Bees in Winter a Good Idea?
We checked in with John Wright, owner of Bee Wild, about how the bees were doing after all the cold weather, ice, and snow in Georgia this past month. (Georgia had below freezing temperatures, a few inches of snow, and black ice. This is very unusual and generally not well-handled in our state.) He checked in with his Dad, our beekeeper, and this is his report:
I make sure that each hive has an adequate honey supply. If one is lacking, I take a frame of honey from an abundant hive and give it to the needy hive.
Where Can I Find More Information about Feeding Bees in Winter?
We had a “Googlefest” the other day, looking at beekeeping and homesteading sites. We like the thorough approach to feeding bees in winter found here: http://www.honeybeesuite.com/winter-feeding-of-honey-bees/.
