by Atlanta Paleo/Primal Meetup –
HodgePodge Coffeehouse and Gallery
At least twice a month, we join the Atlanta Paleo/Primal Group for one of the best meetups we’ve ever attended. Elizabeth, the organizer for the Meetup, is very knowledgeable about ancestral eating, nature hiking, and Paleo/Primal information. The conversations we have at the Meetups are entertaining and educational.
Sunday Brunch at HodgePodge Coffeehouse
Atlanta Paleo/Primal meets for brunch at least once a month. This past Sunday we met at HodgePodge Coffeehouse and Gallery in East Atlanta. HodgePodge serves brunch on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until 3:00 p.m. Traditional, Island, Vegan, Gluten-Free, and Paleo items are on the menu. Coffee, teas, and baked goods are served seven days a week.
HodgePodge’s atmosphere is urban edgy, with white-washed brick walls, art from local artists, and plenty of seating. There is a play area for children and couches and coffee tables in a separate area for those who want to lounge. Round tables and chairs in the main room lend themselves to meetings and good conversation. Since they are plastic, the chairs are a bit uncomfortable.
The brunch menu was spectacular. Several members of our group ordered the Paleo Duck Confit Hash. Sweet potatoes and beets make the hash succulent and filling. The duck confit was juicy and flavorful. I had the cheddar grits with tomato sauce/jam. They absolutely were the best cheese grits I have ever eaten. I ordered eggs, bacon, and sourdough toast, made to order. My roommate had the Butternut Squash soup which was velvety with a light touch of cinnamon and nutmeg. I couldn’t resist the baked goods and had a homemade sausage biscuit which was very flaky and savory.
The service was incredible. Orders were taken at the counter and delivered to the table. Krystle, the baker, came to our table and gave us a sample of the Paleo muffin she is working on. It was very moist and the pineapple in the muffin was luscious. No one would know that there was no farmed grain in the muffin.
Artist Kevin Bongang at HodgePodge Coffeehouse
HodgePodge Coffeehouse supports local artists and community activities. We had the pleasure of meeting Artist Kevin Bongang who currently is showing his work in HodgePodge’s main room. Kevin is doing his Master’s Degree at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) and currently is finishing the mural outside at HodgePodge Coffeehouse. Kevin appears in the featured photo for this post.
He is having an evening showing at HodgePodge Coffeehouse on Thursday, February 28, at 7:00 p.m.
Rating HodgePodge Coffeehouse
The chairs weren’t really an issue for our group because we really enjoyed the food, conversation, and atmosphere. We definitely give HodgePodge Coffeehouse a Five Star Rating!
