Detox Baths – Use
the Healing Power of Salt
My doctor told me that this has been a particularly challenging flu season. So, I thought I would give you one of the most powerful tools in my “Alternative Wellness Tool Kit” — detox baths.
History of the Healing Power of Salt
Saline solutions have been used throughout history and almost 200 years in Modern Medicine. See, for example, http://www.saljetrinse.com/saline.html. Additionally, there are also accounts of the use of spas and mineral baths for healing in the Western World from Roman times on. See http://spas.about.com/cs/spahistory/a/spahistory.htm. Many people use bath salts, a combination of salt and Epsom salts with various scents to create the spa experience at home, and detox baths certainly mimic the wellness advantages of mineral baths. Saline solutions, minerals baths, and other salt treatments historically demonstrate the healing power of salt.
How to Create a Detox Bath
I take a detox bath whenever my immune system feels sluggish. I usually can tell when this happens because some of the glands in my throat start getting sore. Other signs that your body is overwhelmed by toxins are frequent sneezes, coughing, extraordinary tiredness, or lack of energy. I don’t wait for the flu or a cold; I take a detox bath immediately.
My Favorite Detox Bath
Ingredients:
1/2 C Organic Sea Salt or Himalayan Salt
1/2 C Epsom Salts
1/2 C Baking Soda
1/2 C Braggs Organic Cider Vinegar
2 Tsp Organic Powdered Ginger or
Several Drops of Your Favorite Essential Oil
Directions:
- Make sure that you have around 40 minutes to bathe.
- Make a pitcher of pure drinking water and bring a nice glass and the pitcher into the bath with you. Drink as much water as you can while you soak.
- Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl.
- Run a bath, as hot as is comfortable for you.
- Add the dry ingredients and the cider vinegar.
- Soak in the tub for 40 minutes (The bath might turn yellow from the ginger and vinegar. You can wash this out of the tub.)
- Drain the tub.
- Rinse off in a warm shower.
- Seal the moisture from the bath into your skin with organic olive oil or a good organic skin cream.
- Drink more pure drinking water to get the most benefit from the bath.
I have used as much as a whole cup each of salt, Epsom salts, baking soda, and cider vinegar in my detox baths. But, I recommend the gentler half cup to begin with. I also notice a salty taste in my mouth after the bath, and a friend who is a holistic nurse told me that this proves that the minerals from the salts are being absorbed by my body. Mineral absorption is alkalizing for the body, and one of the general principles of holistic healing is that microbes don’t live well in an alkaline environment.
Please note that you should not take a detox bath, without your doctor’s permission, if you have high blood pressure, circulatory challenges, are pregnant, nursing, or diabetic. Additionally, I’m sharing this information to point you toward choices to research. This post is in no way intended to replace your doctor’s guidance. QueenBee
