An Evening to Remember –
The Icarus Session
Last night we had the opportunity to attend a spectacular Meetup at Judi Knight’s Urban Oasis Bed and Breakfast, The Icarus Session. Over thirty artists attended, following Seth Godin’s guidelines for worldwide Icarus Session Meetups, based on his book, The Icarus Deception: How High Can You Fly?
In short, The Icarus Deception, deals with societal, family, and cultural conditioning that advises people not to fly too high, that reaching for everything you can be is dangerous. Godin illustrates what flying low does to your soul by preventing you from authentically expressing who you are. The Icarus Sessions encourage artists to express themselves and fly high!
We listened to over a dozen 140 second presentations from amazing artists — painters, web designers, musicians, event planners, decorators, builders, and designers — using the definition that art is what you have a passion for, that you express unexpectedly and courageously. Art is the thing you would do whether you got paid for it or not, the activity you can immerse yourself in so much that you lose track of time.
This kind of authenticity is what every one of us at Bee Wild reaches for. So, the Icarus Session was a tailor-made activity for us. Our QueenBee talked about expressing personal authenticity and sang How Can Anyone? (Libby Roderick). The richness of conversations, the beautiful artistic expressions, and meeting like-minded people was so enlivening. We highly recommend attending the next Icarus Session in your area.
We thank Judi Knight for her generosity in hosting the first Icarus Session and look forward to monthly Icarus Session Meetups.
Thank you for buzzing over to the Icasrus Session Meetup. You both brought a dollop of sunshine and the song was amazing. Keep flying high!
